Nobel laureate Dr. Mario J. Molina will be one of the featured scientists on a new Public Broadcasting System documentary series called "Breakthrough: The Changing Face of Science in America."
The series, produced by Blackside, Inc., and presented by WGBH, profiles 20 contemporary African American, Latino and Native-American scientists and engineers who are making advances in biology, astronomy, physics, mathematics and many other scientific disciplines.
The segment featuring Dr. Molina, professor of earth, atmospheric and planetary sciences and professor of chemistry, is scheduled to air April 8 at 10pm. It is titled "An Atmosphere of Change."
In it, Professor Molina, with his hometown of Mexico City as a backdrop, describes his Nobel Prize-winning work-he shared the prize with two other environmental scientists-on the fragile ozone layer that protects the world from dangerous untraviolet radiation of the sun.
The series of six hour-long programs will be broadcast on WGBH (Channel 2) on Mondays, April 8, 15 and 22, from 9-11pm.
