CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Alaskan Native Incentive Scholarship Fund at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is designated for the assistance of needy Alaskan Native students who attend MIT for undergraduate studies.
The fund was established by Raymond and Constance Carroll of Andover, Mass.
Dr. Raymond Carroll, an Alaskan Native who received his degree in electrical engineering from MIT in 1963, came to MIT from the Ahtna Region on a scholarship provided by a generous benefactor. At the time he accepted the scholarship he agreed that, when he was able, he would help another Alaskan Native have the same opportunity to attend MIT.
To fulfill this promise, Dr. and Mrs. Carroll have established the endowed Alaskan Native Incentive Scholarship at MIT. The Scholarship will assist Alaskan Natives who have at least one-quarter Alaskan Native blood and who belong (or whose parents belong) to one of the 12 Native Corporations. For the first five years of the award of the scholarship, special preference shall be given to students from the Ahtna Region.
