Fete for Merrill is Planned

A symposium in honor of Professor Edwared W. Merrill of the Department of Chemical Engineering will be held Friday, Oct. 1, on the occasion of his 70th burthday.

The afternoon symposium, which recognizes Professor Merrill for his teaching and research contributions in fields of polymers and bioengineering, will take place in the Celeste Bartos Theatre in the lower level of the Wiesner Building starting at 1pm. Professor Robert A. Brown, head of the department, and Professor Clark L. Colton will make opening remarks, and Propfessor Colton will also give the first talk entitled "Biomedical Engineering: A Local Perspective."

Guest speakers will be Allan S. Hoffman of the University of Washington, Nicholas A. Peppas of Purdue University, Elliot Chaik of of the Emory University School of Medicine, Paul Rempp of Institut Charles Sadron in Strasbourg, France, Stuart L. Cooper of the University of Delaware, and David A. Tirrell of the University of Massachusetts.
