Senate confirms Deutch

Deutch ConfirmedProfessor John M. Deutch, currently on leave from MIT, was confirmed by the Senate last week as Under Secretary for Acquistion in the Department of Defense.

Professor Deutch, former MIT provost and a chemist widely known for his work in science and technology policy, will be formally sworn in soon by Secretary of Defense Les Aspin. A technical swearing-in occurred after the confirmation action and Professor Deutch is officially discharging his duties, serving in his seventh presidential administration.
