A new, potentially multipurpose MIT card is now available from the Office of Housing and Food Services, Senior Vice President William R. Dickson has announced.
The first service that the card will provide is an employee payroll deduction capability for purchases at most MIT food service locations on campus. MIT employee customers using the card for food service purchases can have charges automatically deducted from their regular weekly or monthly paycheck. MIT cardholders get a monthly statement mailed to their MIT addresses detailing the date and amount of each purchase.
The card can also be used as a debit card with a minimum deposit of $20. It will work on the same principle as cards used at automatic teller machines. Each purchase is automatically deducted from your account.
The MIT card will also be available to employees who are Faculty Club members and will replace existing Faculty Club cards. Members choosing the new MIT card can add payroll deduction convenience for purchases at other food service locations on campus. Procedures for purchases at the Faculty Club will remain the same.
Information about the card was circulated in campus mail for delivery Monday at most locations.
Cards are available every weekday from 9am-4pm at the Office of Housing and Food Services, E32-200. They will also be available at Lobby 10 from 10am-2pm on January 14 and 15; in the E19 lobby from 10-2 on January 21-22; at the Faculty Club from 11-2 on January 29 and on February 4-5.
The new MIT card will further the one-card concept for student and employee picture identification purposes, for use as a library card, for gaining access to buildings, parking and food services, and for other MIT accesses when it is fully implemented.
