Jordan in '47 CD Professor

Associate Professor Michael I. Jordan of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences has been selected to be the first holder of the Class of 1947 Career Development Professorship, Provost Mark S. Wrighton has announced.

His selection comes in recognition of his "outstanding contributions in education and research," Professor Wrighton said.

Professor Jordan, a member of the MIT faculty since 1988, holds the BS in psychology (1978) from Louisiana State University, the MS in mathematics (1980) from Arizona State University and the PhD in cognitive science (1985) from the University of California, San Diego.

His research interests are in parallel and distributed processing models of cognitive and linguistic processes; motor control, skill learning; phonetics, phonology and speech synthesis; nonlinear dynamical systems; and adaptive signal processing.

Professor Jordan was designated a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator in 1991.
