The MIT Museum will launch Math Blast!, an interactive program that allows children and their families to explore playful approaches to mathematics, on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2-4 p.m. The program is free with admission to the museum.
Designed to foster an appreciation for the beauty, fun and power of mathematics, the program will feature MIT students and researchers leading informal, interactive demonstrations and workshops for children and their families.
"The Math Blast program is an important part of the museum's attempt to reach out into the community and educate children and families about the role of mathematics in everyday life," said Beryl Rosenthal, director of exhibitions and public programs.
Math Blast! is part of the museum's Family Adventures in Science and Technology (F.A.S.T.) program that aims to build awareness of and an interest in science and technology for children and their families. Co-sponsored by the MIT Department of Mathematics, Math Blast! will allow children to undertake exciting hands-on projects such as describing a juggling pattern, inventing card tricks and building models.
