For the past several years MIT has called a special holiday closing when a major holiday, such as Christmas or Independence Day, fell on a Tuesday or Thursday.
Effective with 1992, the Institute will observe 12 holidays each year, not just when a major holiday falls midweek. The new holiday will be a recognized Institute holiday and regular holiday pay procedures will apply. (See the MIT Personnel Policy Manual Section 4.1 for more detail.)
The new day will vary from year to year. Over the next five years, the schedule will be: Friday, Nov. 27, 1992; Friday, Nov. 26, 1993; Friday, Nov. 25, 1994; Monday, July 3, 1995, and Friday, July 5, 1996.
