Officers from the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) are pitching in this week to help patrol the Institute as their MIT colleagues participate in activities to honor MIT Police Patrol Officer Sean Collier, who was killed in the line of duty last Thursday evening.
The CPD officers will fill in as MIT officers dedicate time in the coming days to activities honoring Collier both on- and off-campus. CPD officers will conduct many of the duties usually handled by MIT Police.
“We thank the Cambridge Police for their assistance while our MIT Police are participating in activities to honor Officer Collier,” MIT Police Chief John DiFava said. “We are fortunate to have supportive neighbors who are willing to lend a helping hand at a difficult time.”
A memorial service for Collier is planned for this Wednesday, April 24, at Briggs Field. Thousands of law enforcement officers from across the nation are expected to attend.
