Jessika Trancik, assistant professor of engineering systems, has been named a 2011 PopTech Science and Public Leadership Fellow. The fellowship is designed to address the need for scientists to be collaborative and socially engaged public communicators. The 2011 class of fellows includes 10 scientists representing diverse areas of study.

Trancik’s work focuses on accelerating the discovery and scaling of new energy technologies aimed at mitigating climate change.

The year-long 2011 Science and Public Leadership Fellows program begins with a leadership retreat at the National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C. The fellows then present their work at the PopTech 2011 conference, taking place October 19-22 in Camden, Maine. The talks will be available on the PopTech website following the conference.

PopTech is a non-profit organization aiming to “accelerate the positive impact of world-changing people and ideas and foster unconventional collaborations that tackle some of the world’s most significant challenges and lead to real and lasting change.”
