In a commentary published in the September/October 2010 issue of the MIT Faculty Newsletter, Shigeru Miyagawa, chair of the MIT OpenCourseWare Faculty Advisory Committee and head of Foreign Languages and Literatures section in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, discusses OCW’s many successes as the program prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Miyagawa writes that OCW has “exceeded every expectation” and has had transformative effects on formal and informal learning around the world.
“MIT OpenCourseWare is truly an achievement of the entire MIT community, a site that shares the voluntary contributions from nearly 1,400 MIT professors and teaching staff, and a similar number of MIT students. It is a collective act of intellectual philanthropy that truly reflects the MIT community’s commitment to the dissemination of knowledge for the public good,” Miyagawa says.
