On Nov. 12-14, the Laboratory for Information Decisions Systems hosts “Paths Ahead in the Science of Information and Decision Systems”. Aimed at articulating the challenges and ideas that will shape future research in information and decision systems, the symposium brings together researchers from around the world who have influenced the vision of this field.

The meeting’s panel sessions will focus on core disciplines: systems and control, networks and networked systems, estimation inference and learning, and optimization and decision sciences — with a special emphasis on challenges that cut across these disciplines.

The event will also honor Professor of Electrical Engineering Sanjoy Mitter, one of the major intellectual leaders of the field, who retires in 2009. Paths Ahead will take a fresh look at old and new research directions; address the relevance, timing and interdisciplinary nature of such directions; and stimulate thinking about the emerging paradigms in these research directions.
