Alum Bill Koch, with his A3 boat designed by MIT's Jerry Milgram and team, has won the America's Cup. The final series was best of seven races; A3 shut out their Italian competitors, Il Moro di Venezia, 4-1. Said Milgram of the effort"It's the hardest thing I've ever done. I'm extremely glad we won, and mighty glad it's over!
The America 3 design team, represented by Dr. Jerome Milgram, Vincent Moeyersoms, and Dr. Heiner Meldner, received the American Telephone and Telegraph Corporation Design Innovation Award for the design of A3 at the same ceremony in which the America's Cup was presented..Note; "The day we won was complete insanity--everybody ended up in the water, champagne-soaked, and as I was getting out some Italian ripped the shirt off my back, screaming `gimme your shirt!"
