Sophomores and juniors expand their horizons in the Burchard Scholars Program
The Burchard Scholars Program of MIT's School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences is now accepting nominations of sophomores and juniors who excel in some area of the humanities, arts or social sciences. Applications are due by Monday, Dec. 3.
The Burchard Scholars program offers up to 30 outstanding students a chance to expand their intellectual and social horizons every year. Scholars meet once a month with MIT faculty for a delicious dinner, a research presentation by a professor or visiting scholar, and stimulating discussion.
Recent Burchard evenings have included presentations about digital media, musical improvisation and the making of Rome's first emperor, Augustus Caesar. "Last year's program was an absolutely wonderful experience for our Burchard Scholars, said Dean Deborah Fitzgerald, "and we envision another exciting and memorable series this year."
All MIT sophomores and juniors in good standing are eligible to apply; no preference is given to HASS majors. Applicants must have a reference from a HASS faculty member, and professors are invited to encourage promising students to apply. To apply online, visit the Burchard Scholars Program website.
