Hailed as "a grand, rich, deeply serious new opera" (Opera Magazine), this one-act, full-evening work introduces specially designed technology that includes a musical chandelier, a chorus of robots and an animated set that becomes an actual character in the story, launching a new era in opera production and expression.
The libretto, written by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, tells the story of Simon Powers, an eccentric billionaire who uploads himself into digital immortality, leaving his worldly body behind — a transformation that turns every object in his surroundings into a collective, living version of himself.
Presented by the American Repertory Theater in collaboration with FAST. For more about the opera, including sound and video samples, visit the project website.
