Mary (Missy) Cummings, associate professor of aeronautics and astronautics and engineering systems and director of the MIT Humans and Automation Lab (HAL), recently appeared on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report." The July 27 broadcast featured Cummings discussing lightweight, smartphone-operated surveillance drones and Colbert attempting (mostly unsuccessfully) to operate one of them.
Research in HAL focuses on the multifaceted interactions of human and computer decision making in complex socio-technical systems. As Cummings explained to Colbert, the lab aims "to make technology easier for humans to use."
Cummings also talked about her work on small unmanned aircrafts in a recent article in The Boston Globe.
