LaserFest 2010: The Laser at 50

Join students and scientists from MIT, Lincoln Laboratory and MIT’s chapter of the Optical Society of America for a panel discussion and hands-on activities exploring the science of the laser from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the MIT Museum.

Highlights of this free evening at the MIT Museum include artifacts from the museum's collection, including the maser, predecessor to the laser. The panel discussion will be moderated by Jeff Hecht and will feature:
  • Peter Moulton, on solid state lasers;
  • Dick Williamson, on semiconductor lasers;
  • Erich Ippen, on ultrafast lasers;
  • Rick Osgood, on gas lasers.
This special program is part of the MIT Museum's monthly Second Friday series in which visitors are encouraged to explore the galleries with friends, have fun and be inspired by stories of innovation and invention.
