Knight News Challenge winners announced today

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, hosted by the MIT Center for Future Civic Media, will announce the winners of the 2010 Knight News Challenge during an event beginning at 2:30 p.m. today in 10-250.

The winners represent the cutting-edge of technology for news, shaping the future of communities and media. The event will also feature "lightning sessions" from the 2010 winners.

Among this year’s winners, a cluster of new visualization tools stand out, helping journalists turn raw information into easy-to-digest maps, charts and graphs — including one that was field-tested in Haiti after the earthquake to map where aid was needed.
