Ceder wins MRS award

Gerbrand Ceder, a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has been selected as the recipient of the MRS Medal by the Materials Research Society (MRS). The award, which Ceder will receive formally in December, is awarded for a specific outstanding recent discovery or advancement that has a major impact on the progress of a materials-related field. His specific citation was for his work on “pioneering the high-impact field of first-principles thermodynamics of batteries materials and for the development of high-power density Li (Lithium) battery compounds.”

Langer honored by Advanced Materials

The journal Advanced Materials has published a special issue on regenerative medicine dedicated to Institute Professor Robert Langer. The Sept. 4 issue can be seen at http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/122580251/issue.

Wolpert named chair of ICPSR’s Governing Council

Director of Libraries Ann Wolpert has been named the chair of the Governing Council of the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) — the world's largest archive of digital social science data — and will begin her duties in March 2010.
