The MIT Women's League raised just shy of $4,000 with its World AIDS Day activities, which included raffling off a donated four-story, Federal-style dollhouse with hidden staircases and secret passages.
The dollhouse winner was Anna Whitten of Newton, who purchased her $5 raffle ticket from Women's League board member Jane Howard. When she got the phone call on Dec. 18 telling her that her name had been drawn, Whitten was "overwhelmed," said Howard. "She said it would be the most marvelous Christmas present for her girls." Whitten has two daughters age seven and 10.
By coincidence, Whitten lives in the same neighborhood as the Turtle Lane Theater, former home of the dollhouse's designer, Ronald L. Dion.
The Women's League held its annual chocolate buffet and a raffle for other donated items on Dec. 1. The $3,957 raised will benefit Cambridge Cares About AIDS, a multicultural, nonprofit agency that provides comprehensive client services to people living with HIV and AIDS. The Women's League raised $2,600 last year with its World AIDS Day activities. This was the league's fourth year of fund-raising for AIDS Day.
