In a May 7 article headlined "Homeland security calls for sci/tech innovation," a quote was attributed incorrectly. The phrase, "Second only to a weapon of mass destruction deployed in an American city, there can be nothing more dangerous than the failure to properly manage science, technology and education for the common good over the next quarter-century," was quoted by President Charles M. Vest from a 2001 report by the Hart-Rudman Commission on National Security/21st Century.

Also, Richard Larson was incorrectly listed as co-chair (with Lewis M. Branscomb) of the National Research Council panel that produced a report titled "Making the Nation Safer: The Role of Science and Technology in Countering Terrorism." The co-chair was Richard D. Klausner.

A version of this article appeared in MIT Tech Talk on May 21, 2003.
