Former MIT student Christopher Millard plunged to his death from the roof of the Phi Beta Epsilon fraternity house last Friday night (March 24). Mr. Millard, 24, was a member of the fraternity and had been living in the house at 400 Memorial Drive.
Mr. Millard, a member of the Class of 1996, was pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital shortly after 10pm Friday. A Cambridge Police Department spokesperson described his death as an apparent suicide, pending the results of an autopsy.
At a memorial service in the MIT Chapel on Monday evening, friends of Mr. Millard recalled a loyal friend nicknamed Duck. They laughed a little and cried a lot as they remembered the camaraderie of hockey and soccer games, a 69-hour poker session, video game marathons and endless shared pizzas. "The only thing sadder than having lost Chris would have been not to have had him at all," said Dharmesh Mehta, a senior and former president of PBE.
Mr. Millard is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Hui-Li of Marina, CA, and a sister, Janet of Seattle.
