Women's lecture series features Hammond

Professor Paula T. Hammond will speak in the MIT Women's Forum/MIT Women's League 1999-2000 "Women on the Edge of New Frontiers" lecture series, on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Now in its second year, the series features prominent women academics who explain their exciting research to a non-technical audience.

Professor Hammond's topic is "Everything You Wanted to Know about Polymers and Plastics and Were Afraid to Ask." Professor Hammond, the Herman P. Meissner Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, conducts research on the development of self-assembling polymeric systems. Her research group is known for design, synthesis and characterization of these new materials as well as techniques with potential in manufacturing and medical sciences.

Professor Hammond (SB 1984, chemical engineering) received the MS from the Georgia Institute of Technology and the PhD from MIT's Program in Polymer Science and Technology in 1993. She received the EPA Early Career Award in 1996 and the NSF Career Award for Young Investigators in 1997.

All sessions of the lecture series are free and are held in the Bush Room (10-105) from 1-2pm. Beverages and desserts are provided; bring your own lunch.
