Traffic routes change to East Garage, annex lot

In preparation for site work on the Stata Center, the East Garage entrance and exit will be reconfigured starting this week.

The existing access road along the west side of the garage will be closed, eliminating the "fifth leg" at the intersection of Vassar, Main and Fulkerson Streets. Users of East Garage and the East Annex Lot will get into those parking facilities from Main Street through existing curb cuts. The guard shack in the middle of the old garage access road will be removed and replaced by a new guard shack within the East Annex Lot.

Because of the existing lane divider, cars must enter from the eastbound side of Main Street; they may not make a left turn coming from the direction of the Longfellow Bridge. Those exiting the garage and lot must also turn right onto Main Street.

Inside East Garage, traffic flow will also change; there will be two-way traffic on the ramps from the first to the second level, with new signs and striping to direct drivers.

Construction is expected to conclude by mid-March.
