Left to right: Chancellor Lawrence Bacow; President Charles Vest; and Professor John Vander Sande, director of the Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI), signed the document on July 21 officially creating CMI, the collaborative program between MIT and Cambridge University. The agreement represents the culmination of negotiations among the UK government, Cambridge University and MIT that followed the memorandum of intent signed in November 1999. This October, 10 MIT undergraduates will travel to England as the first exchange students of CMI. Other aspects of the new Institute, such as research exchange and professional degree programs, will get under way fall 2001.
