Awards & Honors

��������� Nam P. Suh, the Ralph E. and Eloise F. Cross Professor and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will receive an honorary doctor of technology degree from the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, in Stockholm, Sweden, on November 10.

On March 15, he will receive the Mensforth International Gold Medal of the Institution of Electrical Engineers of the United Kingdom for outstanding contributions to the advancement of manufacturing engineering technology or manufacturing management.

��������� Professor Wesley L. Harris of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics is spending a sabbatical year as the Goldwater Professor of American Institutions at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.

The visiting professorship, which includes special seminars and a lecture, was held by the late Sen. Barry Goldwater after he retired from the US Senate. Professor Harris, an MIT faculty member for 18 years, has served the past several years as director of MIT's Lean Sustainment Initiative and codirector of the Lean Aircraft Initiative. He served in government as NASA's Associate Administrator for Aeronautics from 1993 to 1995.
