The Women's Forum and the Womens' League join forces once again to host the lunchtime lecture series focusing on the work of women in the MIT community entitled "Women on the Edge of New Frontiers." The first in this three-session lecture series will be held on Monday, Nov. 8 with guest speaker Dr. Julie Dorsey. Her topic will be "Digital Materials: Modeling the Visual Richness of the Everyday World."
Dr. Dorsey is an associate professor in the Departments of Architecture and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a member of the Laboratory for Computer Science. Her research interests are in computer graphics and include photorealistic image synthesis, material and texture models, illustration techniques, and interactive visualization of complex scenes, with an application to urban environments. Dr. Dorsey has received several awards, including a Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation, an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship, and the 1997 Harold E. Edgerton Faculty Achievement Award from MIT.
All sessions of this lecture series are free and will be held in the Bush Room (10-105) from 1-2pm. Beverages and desserts will be provided.
