Maeda to talk about design

While most art and technology projects pair artists with engineers or scientists, Professor John Maeda is an artist and a computer scientist who views the computer as an artistic medium in its own right. The pioneering graphic designer will speak about his new book, Design by Numbers, on Thursday, May 13 at 7pm in Rm E25-111 as part of the authors@mit series.

"John Maeda shows graphic designers how to... create their own digital tools," wrote Dean William Mitchell of the School of Architecture and Planning. "His elegant book could change the way we think about graphic design; I hope it will."

Dr. Maeda is the Sony Career Development Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, assistant professor of design and computation, and director of the Aesthetics and Computation Group at the Media Lab.
