The Association of MIT Retirees has scheduled another day trip, this time to Essex on Wednesday, Sept. 22, to explore the historic Cogswell's Grant estate and relax on a cruise on the Essex River.
Cogswell's Grant is an 18th-century farmhouse, purchased and restored 60 years ago by Bertram K. and Nina Fletcher Little, who furnished it with American folk art, about which Mrs. Little wrote extensively. It is now operated by the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, which conducts tours from April-October. The MIT Retirees private tour is scheduled for 11am.
Following lunch-on-your-own, the trip will conclude with a narrated cruise through the Essex River salt marshes, rich with wildlife and historic points of interest. Binoculars and cameras will be in order.
The trip is limited to 24. Participants must provide their own transportation (detailed instructions will be provided). The price is $21 per person, exclusive of lunch. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Retirees office, x3-7910, by Friday, Sept. 10 to sign up.
