Five biology students received 1998-99 awards from their department.
Alok J. Saldanha, a senior from Lynnfield, MA, received the Salvador E. Luria Prize given to a student for outstanding scholarship and research of publication quality.
Michael D. Altman, a senior from Staten Island, NY and Margaret J. Latocha, a senior from Hopedale, MA received John L. Asinari Awards, given in memory of John L. Asinari (Class of 1975) to undergraduate biology majors for outstanding research in life sciences.
Maitreya J. Dunham, a senior from Dickson, TN received the Ned Holt Prize, given to a biology major who demonstrates excellence in scholarship and service to the department and the MIT community during his or her career as an undergraduate.
Jason F. Kreisberg, a senior from Irvine, CA, received the Whitehead Prize, given to a student for showing outstanding promise for a career in biological research as demonstrated by academic scholarship and contributions to research and the MIT community during his career as an undergraduate biology major.
