MIT is #1 in engineering and 9 fields in US News graduate school rankings

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology garnered ten "Number 1" rankings in engineering, biology and economics in the ninth edition of the US News and World Report Best Graduate Schools Guidebook.

For the ninth straight year, MIT is the nation's number one school of engineering, winning top honors overall and in seven engineering disciplines: aeronautics, chemical, computer, electrical/electronic, materials/metallurgical, mechanical, and nuclear.

MIT's number one rank was shared in biological sciences with Harvard, Stanford, and the University of California at Berkeley, and with Harvard and Stanford in economics.

In specialty areas within economics departments, MIT was tops in industrial organization and tied with Harvard for first in international economics. MIT was number two in microeconomics, and number three in macroeconomics and in public finance.

The MIT Sloan School of Management is ranked third among business schools.

In specialty areas within business schools, MIT was ranked number one in management information systems and production/operations. MIT was fifth in finance, and eighth in entrepreneurship.

MIT also was ranked eighth in political science, and twelfth in psychology, which at MIT is based in its Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences.

The guidebook, and additional materials, are to be published Friday on the Web at US News Online and will be on newsstands Monday, the magazine reported.
