Campus-wide Fall Festival scheduled for Oct. 19-24

A number of student organizations have collaborated to present MIT's first Fall Festival, a six-day campus festival to be held October 19-24 featuring a wide variety of events.

Cultural symposium: A mix of debates, speakers and events that highlight the diversity of the MIT community, each focusing on a different area of the world. Presented by the Campus Activities Complex Program Board. Monday-Thursday evenings.

World cinema: LSC will show four international films throughout the week, each one showcasing the unique culture, history, and politics of a particular region of the world. No admission charge. Monday-Thursday evenings.

Mini I-Fair: ISA's smaller version of its spring International Fair will feature performances and free food from all over the world, with help from many of MIT's cultural organizations. Friday, noon-3pm on Kresge Oval.

Swing dance/Fall Fling: The MIT Ballroom Dance Team will offer free swing lessons during the week, culminating in Friday's Fall Fling, a dance/concert. Tickets go on sale September 25 at The Source (x2-1994). The Fall Fling will feature the White Heat Swing Orchestra, a swing band originally from the Boston area, and is open to all with college IDs. Friday evening, 9pm-1am in Dupont Gymnasium.

City Year Serve-a-thon: MIT students will join more than 50,000 volunteers in an annual service event in Boston similar to CityDays. To participate, e-mail Paritosh Somani at psomani@mit.edu and pick up forms in the Public Service Center (third floor, Student Center). Saturday, 9am-4pm.

Theta Playstation: Kappa Alpha Theta's annual service event will feature video games on the balconies of Lobdell and a dance party with a DJ on the main floor. Play games to win great prizes. There will be free food, dance contests and a balloon drop. All proceeds will go to charity. Saturday, 9pm-1am.

The Fall Festival is sponsored by the Undergraduate Association (UA), the Graduate Student Council (GSC), the Association of Student Activities (ASA), the International Students Association, the Lecture Series Committee, the Program Board of the Campus Activities Complex, the MIT Ballroom Dance Team and Kappa Alpha Theta, with support from the Large Event Funding Panel, a panel put together by the UA, the GSC and the ASA.

Most events are open to the MIT/Wellesley community only, with the exception of the Fall Fling, which is open to all with college IDs. For more information on the festival, send e-mail to fall@mit.edu or see the complete schedule on the web.
