Aero/astro hosts flight symposium, lecture

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Daedalus human-powered flight, MIT will host the Lester D. Gardner Lecture and the Symposium on Low-Speed and Motorless Flight on April 26-27.

The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the New England Chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The symposium will have two parts. On Sunday, April 26, students will give presentations on their current and recent research and project activities in the Marlar Lounge (Rm 37-252) starting at 10am.

On Monday, April 27 starting at 8:30am in Bartos Theater (Building E15), the invited-speaker session of the symposium will feature six talks on current research and aircraft programs around the world. These two sessions are intended to reflect the extensive participation of students as well as faculty in the Daedalus project.

The final event, following the symposium on Monday, will be the 28th annual Lester D. Gardner Lecture by Dr. Paul MacCready and Dr. John Langford III on human-powered flight.
