Boston Music Theater will present Joan of Arc, a musical drama by MIT Lecturer Laura Harrington and composer Mel Marvin, on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, at 8pm in the Walsh Theater at Suffolk University (75 Temple St., Boston). The script-the first to portray Joan realistically as a teenage girl-will also receive a staged reading at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City in September.
Robert Campbell of the Boston Globe offered critical praise for Open Strings for E: Search on the Journey, an exhibit of the works of Professor Jan Wampler of the School of Architecture and Planning, currently on exhibit at the MIT Museum. "Wampler belongs to a type that's fast disappearing but once was common, a Walt Whitman or Woody Guthrie or Carl Sandburg. He sings the praises of the common man and the land." the review said. "Wampler aspires to be a farmer of buildings, not so much designing them as nurturing them into existence from the soil of culture and context. It's a selfless vision, the exact opposite of a perception of the architect as an avant-garde, praise-seeing artist."
