Alice C. Waugh Appointed Assistant Editor/Staff Writer

Alice C. Waugh, formerly a reporter and bureau chief for the Middletown (CT) Press, has been appointed to the MIT News Office as a staff writer and assistant editor of MIT Tech Talk.

Ms. Waugh's responsibilities include writing articles and news releases, and assisting Joanne Miller, editor of MIT Tech Talk, in editing and layout of the newspaper each week. Since joining the staff on July 26, she has written feature stories about events on campus as well as articles on MIT science, engineering and The Industry Summit.

A 1983 magna cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College, majoring in English and psychology, she spent summers working for MIT professors in the chemistry and biology departments. Following college, she worked as a reporter for two years at the Sudbury (Mass.) Town Crier and then began graduate study at the University of California at Berkeley, where she received her master's degree in journalism in 1986.

She subsequently served as a staff writer and assistant managing editor at The Interface Group in Needham, Mass. and as an assistant editor and reporter for The Pictorial Gazette in Old Saybrook, Ct., working with a variety of desktop publishing systems.

At the Middletown Press, she reported on university issues at Wesleyan University, as well as covering general news, health and science.

Ms. Waugh lives in Cambridge.

A version of this article appeared in the October 6, 1993 issue of MIT Tech Talk (Volume 38, Number 9).
