Singapore-MIT Alliance in Research and Technology (SMART)

Boston Globe Magazine reporter Neil Swidey travels to Singapore to learn more about Prof. Emilio Frazzoli’s work developing autonomous vehicles with the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART). Frazzoli explains that he feels driverless cars have “the potential to change everybody’s life.”

Federico Guerrini of Forbes writes that a team of researchers involved with the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) is developing a 3-D microfluidic cell culture device to detect cancer. The device is a thick disk “in which the team has designed some ‘channels’ to study how the cells move inside the blood vessels and interact with each other.”

The Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) plans to test a system that allows people to hail electric, autonomous cars, reports Kelly O’Brien for Boston.com. These “cars would be an efficient way to get people from their homes to a T stop or commuter rail station,” O'Brien explains. 

Jane Peterson of The New York Times examines MIT’s research and academic efforts in Singapore. Prof. Thomas Magnanti explains that the Institute’s collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design helps MIT achieve its mission "to create knowledge and educate students to improve the world.”
