MIT has selected eight people to serve on a review panel that will determine whether MIT Police have the policies, governance and disciplinary systems needed to promote police practice at the highest level.
The panel, which was announced following an MIT police officer's arrest last month on suspicion of trafficking in prescription painkillers, will report to MIT President Susan Hockfield and to Executive Vice President and Treasurer Theresa M. Stone.
The panel comprises the following individuals:

Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Students Blanche Staton
Former MIT Police Officer Joseph D'Amelio was arrested on March 14 in East Boston after he received what authorities said was a delivery of the drugs OxyContin and Roxycodone. MIT immediately placed him on administrative leave without pay. He has since been dismissed from the force and his employment terminated.
