The MIT Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (DAPER) participated in a holiday toy drive last week, organized by MIT sailing coach Matt Linblad.

Members of the DAPER staff volunteered to sponsor Cambridge-area children and helped make their holiday a little bit merrier. In all, MIT was able to sponsor 32 local children, the most in the four years Linblad has organized the drive.

Linblad has worked in conjunction with the Cambridge Department of Children and Families to help identify children in-need. DAPER staff members were given a child's name and "wish list," and then went to work shopping for their presents. The MIT equipment staff helped coordinate the collection and delivery of the gifts.

Linblad expressed gratitude to all the DAPER staff that contributed and helped bring some much needed joy to these local families.
