Schering-Plough Library to relocate

MIT's Schering-Plough Library will relocate from Building E25 to the Science Library (Building 14S) at the end of this academic year.

The branch library that serves the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) is being closed to lower MIT Libraries' operating expenses in accordance with Institute-wide budget constraints. The decision also was influenced by the impending move of Schering-Plough's primary community to the new brain and cognitive sciences building now under construction, which will not have room for the library.

Current Schering-Plough staff will remain with the MIT Libraries.

The Libraries have appointed a transition team to handle the sorting, moving and integration of the Schering-Plough collection into Hayden Library, which offersextended hours, greater access to all science-related materials, and a 24-hour study space.

Team members are examining book and journal collections and weeding out duplicates. Other work will continue until the end of the year with minimal disruption to library users.

Most of the move will take place during the summer. During the transition, life sciences librarian Louisa Worthington will remain available to the BCS community to provide reference assistance, order new print and electronic materials, give tours to acquaint users with the new Science Library arrangement, and update web page information.
