Anna Massie

Monarch High School,

Louisville, Colo.

Anna Massie witnessed a space shuttle launch in Florida when she was in second grade. That sparked a lifelong interest in rocket science.

"I'd like to do research with space technology and possibly even go up there some day," Massie told the Rocky Mountain News. She plans to major in aeronautics and astronautics at MIT.

A member of Monarch's rocket club in the ninth and 11th grades, she also was co-president of the Senior Senate, a drum major in the marching band and a varsity swimmer for four years. She played flute this summer for a youth theater production of "My Fair Lady" and taught swimming at the Louisville Recreation Center while competing for the Louisville Dolphins swim team. She is a member of the National Honor Society.
