Musical Helios: Music of the Sun

The Boston Chamber Music Society will feature two MIT professors — Kerry A. Emanuel, the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Atmospheric Science; and Michael Cuthbert, an associate professor of music — with Leon Golub, senior astrophysicist with the Solar & Stellar X-Ray Group in the High Energy Astrophysics Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, in a forum titled "Musical Helios" at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 19, in Kresge Auditorium.

The event is part of the Boston Chamber Music Society's Independent Activities Period Winterfest hosted by MIT Professor of Music Marcus Thompson, artistic director and violist of the Boston Chamber Music Society (BCMS).

Following the forum, a concert at 4 p.m., by BCMS artists Karyl Ryczek, soprano; Ida Levin and Harumi Rhodes, violin; Marcus Thompson, viola; Raman Ramakrishnan, cello; and Randall Hodgkinson and Mihae Lee, piano, will feature Haydn, String Quartet in B-flat Major, Sunrise; Debussy, La mer (arr. for piano four hands); Hartke, The King of the Sun: Tableaux for piano quartet; and Respighi, Il Tramonto (The Sunset) for voice and string quartet.
