John Shepard Reed, chairman of the MIT Corporation and retired chairman and CEO of Citigroup, Inc., will speak on Engineering Systems in the Service Sector: The Launch of the ATM and How It Revolutionized Personal Banking. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. in the Bartos Theater (E15-070). Light refreshments will be served in the
Lower Atrium at 3:30 p.m.
Reed will talk about the deployment of ATMs during the 1970s. This is a real-world example of the early deployment of an interactive, real-time system at scale, within a functioning metropolitan branch banking network — a technical as well as organizational and customer challenge.
The Brunel Lecture Series on Complex Systems is sponsored by the MIT Engineering Systems Division. Find out more: http://esd.mit.edu/Headline/calendar/2013/022713brunel.html.
