Arts at MIT’s Graduate Arts Soiree has gained in popularity, so much so that in just one year it is now among the largest graduate events at MIT. Nearly 600 graduate students attended the second annual event on the evening of Friday, March 9, hosted by the Graduate Arts Forum and the Graduate Student Council.
Students from nearly every graduate program were in attendance, whose areas of study range from aeronautics and architecture to business and biochemistry. They came together in the Skyline Silverman room at the Media Lab for an evening that showcased the extraordinary creativity of MIT graduate students and publicized the many innovative arts opportunities at MIT.
“It is great to see how popular this event has become,” said Sam Magee, coordinator of student arts programs and one of the event organizers. “We’re especially happy to see students from so many disciplines celebrating the arts at MIT.”
Creative work by 24 graduate student artists was highlighted at the event, including performances in dance, piano, singing and video installations. A jazz quartet from the Berklee College of Music also performed.
The event was co-hosted by Greg Kuperman, chair of the activities committee for the Graduate Student Council at MIT.
