IS&T ending support for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

IS&T will continue to offer full support for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).

As of Feb. 1, 2012, Information Services and Technology (IS&T) will no longer offer support for Apple machines running Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). This decision was made based on the following criteria:
  • Lack of support from Apple and third-party vendors for business-critical applications in Leopard: Mail, iCal, Safari and others;
  • Age of operating system (greater than four years);
  • IS&T support resources needed to support multiple Apple operating systems;
As a reminder, IS&T strongly recommends a three-year hardware-renewal cycle for all departments, labs and centers (DLCs). This timeline helps to ensure that machines are current enough to run the software recommended and supported by both IS&T and third-party vendors.

Those looking to upgrade equipment can view IS&T’s hardware recommendations online. For further assistance, contact the Help Desk at 617-253-1101 or helpdesk@mit.edu. You can also submit a request online.
