MIT family concert

Contemporary folk master Tom Chapin and his band will perform a free concert for MIT and its families on Saturday, May 1, at 3 p.m. in Room 10-250 — the first family concert at MIT in more than 20 years.

Chapin is a multiple Grammy award-winning folk artist for adults and children. His 11 family albums have earned him critical acclaim including five Grammy nominations for Best Musical Album for Children. NASA played Mr. Chapin’s song, “This Pretty Planet” on the space shuttle Discovery to wake the astronauts in outer space.

“My collaborators and I have worked together for over 20 years writing, recording and performing songs for families," Chapin said. "I am so looking forward to coming to MIT and sharing our stories, songs and music with its families: parents, grandparents and kids.”

Tom Chapin sings about the world’s great diversity and the importance of taking care of the Earth. His music praises the value of renewable resources and alternative energy. His latest family album in the works highlights the benefits of healthy eating choices and prizes locally grown produce.
