Albany Street closed Sept. 7

Commuters can expect delays at the Massachusetts Avenue and Albany Street intersection all day Wednesday, Sept. 7, while Albany Street is closed for paving. Massachusetts Avenue will remain open in both directions.

Starting at 7 a.m., traffic on Albany Street will be detoured along Pacific and Sidney Streets. Signs and police officers will direct drivers through the detour.

People coming to campus from the Harvard Square direction may find it easier to take Broadway--which runs parallel to Massachusetts Avenue--to Vassar Street, said Rebecca Fuentes, community relations officer for Cambridge's Office of Public Works.

"Everyone will be impacted," said Fuentes. "This is expected to be one of the most difficult closures we will have to do." The paving is part of the ongoing construction of Massachusetts Avenue.

The contractor plans to re-open Albany Street as soon as possible at the end of the workday.

Questions or concerns can be directed to Fuentes at (617) 349-6948 or rfuentes@cambridgema.gov.
