Parking, traffic to be limited at MIT on July 4

For those planning to come into MIT to view the fireworks on the Fourth of July, please keep in mind:

  • The Mass. Ave bridge will be closed in both directions at 6 p.m.

The Longfellow bridge will be closed Boston-bound at 12 noon, Cambridge-bound at 6 p.m.

Memorial Drive will be closed in both directions at 5 p.m.

  • Access to Wadsworth, Hayward, Carleton and Ames streets will be limited to vehicles with MIT parking stickers beginning at 6 p.m.
  • The Sloan parking lot will be closed at 5 p.m. Vehicles parked in the lot will not be able to exit until midnight at the earliest.

These parking lots will be limited to those with any current MIT parking sticker from 4 p.m. to midnight on the Fourth of July:

  • Sloan Lot
  • Hayward Lot
  • CRA Lot
  • East Lot
  • Main Lot
  • Kresge Lot

The E51 lot and West Lot will be used as a command center for city and state emergency response services. There will be no parking allowed in the E51 and West lots.

Please be aware that it usually takes a couple of hours after the fireworks are over before all the cars clear the parking lots. The MBTA will also be providing extra service on the Fourth of July.
