Construction Update

Simmons Hall

Work on the building's exterior will take place over the next three weeks. The contractor will place cones on the sidewalk to lead pedestrians through the work area safely. The kitchen and dining rooms are in full dinner operation.

Stata Center

Because construction adjacent to the Alumni Pool will make pedestrian access potentially unsafe, the pool will be closed from April 15 until February 2004. (Locker rooms are also being built at the pool.) Installation of sheet piles is under way, which may result in vibrations and noise. The work is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will last for approximately two weeks. After the sheet piles are installed, excavation of the site will begin. There may be sulfurous odors due to soil conditions. Air fresheners are available through Rob McDevitt at 258-6503. The Alumni Pool is now accessible only from buildings 16 and 56.

Chemistry building

Repair work on the east concrete facade is almost complete. Installation of mechanical systems continues. Demobilization of the construction staging area is being planned and most of the trailers will be removed later this spring.

Building E19

The renovation project is on schedule and nearing completion. Commissioning (testing and startup of key pieces of equipment/ to ensure that the systems function as designed) is scheduled for the week of April 21. Fifth-floor occupancy is scheduled for April 28. The third floor was completed in February.
