Not all ant farmers make it big. But James McLurkin, creator of robotic ants in droves, is living large on a subway poster in Washington D.C.

The poster advertises an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution featuring MIT graduate student McLurkin and his robotic ants. "Invention at Play" tells the inventor's stories through pictures, words and, of course, inventions. The traveling exhibit, sponsored by the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation, is scheduled to show at Boston's Museum of Science early next year.

In the meantime, the curious can go to the exhibition web site and check out McLurkin's story there. Akhil Madhani (Ph.D. 1997), who won the Lemelson Student Award when he was a graduate student in the AI Lab, is another of the featured inventors.
