Physics honors students with awards

The Department of Physics honored students with awards at a ceremony on June 5.

Joel Matthew Orloff Awards were presented to three seniors. The Joel Matthew Orloff Award for outstanding scholarship in physics was presented to John B. Hough, a physics and mathematics major from Midland, MI. The award for outstanding research in physics was presented to Till B. Rosenband of G��ttingen, Germany. The award for outstanding service to the physics community was presentedto Bilge M. Demirkoz of Istanbul, Turkey.

The Philip Morse Memorial Award for a senior of high academic standing in physics who plans to pursue graduate study in physics was presented to Aram W. Harrow, a senior in physics and mathematics from East Lansing, MI.

The Malcolm Cotton Brown Award for a physics senior of high academic standing who plans to pursue graduate study in experimental physics was presented to Margaret W. Pan, a senior in physics and earth, atmospheric and planetary sciences from Princeton Junction, NJ.

The Alan H. Barrett Prize for Excellence in Astrophysics at MIT was presented too late for inclusion in this issue of MIT Tech Talk.
